The centre is walkable in a morning. A full day gives you time to continue through the old gates into Șchei.

When a full day makes sense

Choose this on your first day in Brașov, after a late arrival, or when you do not want to arrange transport. You will not cover much ground, but the change from the Saxon centre to Șchei is worth the extra walk.

Route order

Start around Council Square and the Black Church. Continue towards Catherine's Gate and Șchei Gate, then walk into Șchei rather than circling back immediately. Return through the lanes south of the square and leave Tâmpa and the surviving wall towers for clear weather.

The trade-off

Council Square carries the heaviest visitor traffic and many restaurants price for the location. One or two streets away, the centre is quieter and the restaurants are less geared to tourists.
